Someone else on my team made the final purchase but I know it was under $500. I found Toad much simpler to learn and I was not only able to do forward and reverse engineering in my Oracle environment, but also MySQL, which I work with quite a bit as well. I was also evaluating other tools at the time and after seeing the price it made my decision to go with Toad Data Modeler that much easier.
I was also eagerly awaiting the price for the data modeler, but unfortunately, not before I spent quite a bit of time playing with the tool. I'm thinking Data Modeler would appeal mostly to price-insensitive customers. To those who've used both Data Modeler and Enterprise Architect, is Data Modeler 20X better than Enterprise Architect? ($3,000 for DM / $150 for EA = 20). Seems like database data modeling is a bit of an afterthought with Enterprise Architect, but it is only USD ~$150 per seat and does both forward and reverse engineering of Oracle databases. Guess I will continue to use Enterprise Architect for data modeling. Those who can afford it can judge if it's worth the price. It would have been a waste of time, as the cost is too high for a data modeling tool-or rather, it is out of budget for me and my team, personally.
